4 Simple Tips for Taking Care of Relaxed Hair
Tips for taking care of your relaxed hair include the following: having a regular trim, applying oil to your hair, choosing hairstyles that don’t provide additional hair damage, and using the right shampoos.
Women generally love to do all sorts of things to their hair, including having it relaxed. A relaxed hair may look beautiful, but the chemicals used to achieve that look are also very damaging to the hair. Thus, when the hair is chemically-treated, it needs to be taken cared of to prevent further damage.
Have a regular hair trim
The ends of long hair are prone to drying and damage because of the natural oil’s inability to reach the tips of the hair. This damage and dryness is apparent with the presence of split ends. Split ends also make the damaged parts of your hair become uneven as they individually travel in different lengths along each strand. Consequently you need to regularly trim the tips of your hair every six weeks to remove the damaged part and keep your hair in good condition. This is especially important with hair that has undergone a chemical treatment, because of the fragile condition of the hair. When trimming your hair, it is important that you use a really sharp pair of scissors so as not to leave some un-trimmed strands behind or cause further damage by the cutting of dull blades.
Apply oil to your hair
Applying natural oil to hair such as jojoba oil, olive oil, Moroccan oil, and rosemary oil will also be beneficial for your relaxed hair. These essential oils have the ability to nourish hair, to benefit both natural and chemically-treated hair. With these oils, the natural moisture of your hair will not only be protected and left intact, but more moisture will be added to your hair. As a result, your hair will stay healthy and lustrous, even if it had undergone a major stress with the chemicals used to relax your hair. Just apply a generous amount of the oil to your hair, beginning from the tips and working your way upwards. And after you wash your hair, you should also apply lightweight moisturizing oil to keep friction and other damages off your hair.
Choose hairstyles that don’t provide additional hair damage
Because of the fragile nature of your hair, you should also try to avoid hairstyles that damage to your hair. If you have to use hair accessories, choose ones that are gentle on the hair, such as scrunchies and coated hair barrettes. You should also minimize using heat generating hair styling tools, such as hair dryers and straightening irons; the heat involved in these tools will further damage your hair. If you have to use them on a regular basis, allow a few days in between for your hair to rest and recover. In addition to that, use the lowest setting you can, and apply heat protecting products to your hair, as well.
Use the right shampoos
Right after you have your hair relaxed, use a clarifying shampoo to remove the chemicals left on your hair from the treatment. Then, use hydrating shampoo for the succeeding hair washes to provide your hair with its much needed nourishment. It is not advisable to wash your hair every day, but you should at least have a regular schedule for it. Then, after every hair wash, you should follow it up with a good conditioning treatment.
It is important that you have diligence in taking care of your relaxed hair. Wear hats or a scarf to protect your hair from environmental hazards. Enjoy your beautiful relaxed hair!
